I'm reporting back on my assignment to find a restaurant for a "birds-of-a-feature" dinner on Friday night, Oct. 2, during the Online News Association convention. I sent emails to four or five friends and then sifted though and reviewed their recommendations.
The best idea came from Fabrice Florin, founder of Newstrust.net, who recommended Café de la Presse, at 352 Grant Ave., between Bush and Sutter. 415-398-2680. It's a small, French bistro-style restaurant. It's right near Chinatown. And the decor is appropriate -- it features newspapers from around the globe.

A priority was to get a little bit away from Union Square, which is touristy, but have it still be possible for hardy folks who want a little exercise to walk to dinner. The restaurant is eight blocks -- 3/4-mile, a 15-minute walk or five-minute cab ride -- from the hotel. Here's a Google map with directions: http://tinyurl.com/y8odmq2
